About Sunnybank Therapies

At Sunnybank Therapies, we offer a range of flexible, evidence-based therapeutic options to best suit you.

Our practitioners are trained in a variety of therapeutic models and generally take a multi-modal approach so that we can tailor a treatment program specifically to meet personal needs.

We support our clients through both talk-based and experiential therapies in a relaxed, welcoming setting, always taking a client-centred, trauma-informed approach as we work together toward positive outcomes, mental health and emotional wellness.

About

"The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings you in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and freedom."

Talk-Based & Experiential Therapies

Relaxed & Welcoming Setting

Positive Outcomes, Mental Health & Emotional Wellness

  • Do you see clients for traditional therapy?
Yes, we see clients across the lifespan and with a variety of presentations. Equine assisted psychotherapy is at request only, not as as the default session.
  • Can Sunnybank Therapies take NDIS clients?
Absolutely. We have extensive experience working with clients through the NDIS including (but not limited to) clients on the Autism Spectrum, with ADHD, ODD, SPD, Downs Syndrome and more.
  • Do I need a referral?
If you have a Medicare Referral from your GP, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for each session with a registered or clinical psychologist. For the clients of our intern psychologists, a Medicare rebate does not apply however, the reduced price reflects this. You can still come without a referral, the Medicare rebate will not apply though.
  • Do I have to be outside or with the horses?
No, we have indoor facilities to accommodate those who are presenting for traditional room-based therapies.
  • Do you travel with the horses?
No, the horses work best in their own space so they are calm and regulated.
  • Can we ride the horses?
All sessions are unmounted however, we are more than happy to refer you to a reputable riding facility where requested.
  • Why is there such a long waitlist?
As you are likely aware, the waitlists for psychological services are long Australia wide. Too, the participants, clients and people associated with Sunnybank Therapies tend to remain with us and therefore, places are limited. We are as fair as we can be, and it's a 'first in, first served' model of care with the exception of risk. In the same way triage services work in a hospital, Sunnybank has a duty of care to prioritise urgent and acute risks when they present. If we could, we could help each and every person with their hand up as each of you are important, each person is enough and every person deserves assistance. Unfortunately, the hours in the day are limited and burnout is very real for practitioners in this position and so we structure the practice in a way that respects all persons involved.

Sunnybank Therapies respectfully acknowledge the Darkinjung peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work. We pay respect to their Elders past and present, and reflect on the continuing connection with Country and Community. We acknowledge that we have benefited from the forcible change of this land from Aboriginal custodianship. Recognising our work provides services to the community in all corners of the land now referred to as Australia, we extend this acknowledgement to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across this continent.
